Race of Remembrance is supported by BAE Systems

  • Peter Sherratt, from BAE Systems supports as a Supercar Saturday driver

  • Representatives from BAE Systems lay wreath at the Service of Remembrance

Already a supporter of Mission Motorsport, BAE Systems kindly stepped in to support the 2023 Race of Remembrance as our headline sponsor, and Enabled, the BAE Systems’ UK colleague network that offers support to employees with disabilities, whether visible or non-visible, will be supporting the weekend’s Remembrance activities.

As part of the Company’s ongoing commitment to support the armed forces, veterans and their families, BAE Systems supports the charity’s monthly activities at the Three Sisters circuit in Wigan however, keen to raise awareness of the impact of different disabilities and as a supportive, accessible and inclusive employer in the North West, BAE Systems are sponsoring the weekend’s activities.

Mission Motorsport volunteer and BAE Systems employee, Peter Sherratt, will be volunteering his services as a driver on Supercar Saturday. Peter regularly takes his BMW to the Three Sisters circuit giving Mission Motorsport beneficiaries the opportunity to experience the thrills of a high-speed car ride, and happily volunteered to attend over the Remembrance weekend. Speaking of his involvement Peter said: “The work Mission Motorsport does is really admirable and I’m proud to have volunteered with the charity for eight years. I’ve met some incredible people and have had the pleasure of watching beneficiaries change their lives through the work the charity does with them. Mission has been an absolute lifeline for many of them, increasing confidence together with numerous career options. The charity has enabled many to get support and find direction in their post military life. I feel proud to work for a company that is supporting the armed forces and helping those on our doorstep.”

Also attending over the weekend is Martin Bashforth. Martin first encountered Mission Motorsport after initially applying through a veterans scheme for a trainee position with Toyota UK. Martin who left the military in 2007, became a beneficiary of Mission Motorsport in 2019 after struggling to find a new path. Now a Safety, Health and Environment Associate for BAE Systems, Martin likes to give back to the charity that helped him and will be supporting his team as a mechanic for the fifth year running.

On behalf of BAE Systems, Martin will lay a wreath at the Service of Remembrance in honour of all those he served alongside during his time in the military and to pay tribute to all those who sacrificed so much.

Keep an eye out for the BAE Systems logo on the livery of two race cars this weekend, and if you’d like more information about the involvement from BAE Systems and Martin’s story you can read more here.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thank you to BAE Systems for their support.
